Review on πŸ“· Hopkins Smart Hitch 50002 Backup Camera and Sensor System by Tommy Penn

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good camera system for the price

When I first opened the package I found the license plate bracket very crappy and overall wasn't expecting very good results. I installed it on a 2016 Ram1500 in about 35 minutes and it ran very well. The 7-pin interface made things easy, and the biggest PIA was the efficient back-to-front cable routing. I found a spot high up on the firewall to get into the cockpit and installed a screen on the dash to the left of the steering wheel. It took about 3 more minutes to set up the proximity sensors and this thing worked great. Now I can connect. Lift my trailer in 1 try and no help. I will say that the proxy sensors are a little off for normal reversing. So make sure you calibrate your brain to the actual distance the camera is telling you when backing up. I have a discrepancy of about 6 to 8 inches. Once I figured that out, it was easy to adjust the warning indicators to the "true distance" of the object behind me. One bad thing about this camera is that when reversing with a trailer, the warning system detects the trailer and can be quite annoying. The volume control on my devices seems semi-functional and often cannot be turned off.

Pros
  • Car Security
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than others
