I've been a professional mechanic for 30 years, Toyota master mechanic and now that I'm retired I still repair friends and family's cars. I used to always use a drawbar to disconnect the tie rods and ball joints but the only problem is that in most cases the tie rod or ball joint separates from the steering knuckle and the anthers are snapped and these days sealed tie rods or ball joints are hinge assemblies a big problem since they cannot be lubricated. So unless you plan on replacing them, you need to make sure you don't damage the rubber boots. So I finally decided to buy a separator that should do this without damaging the anthers. However, this one was completely disappointing. A U-nut that should allow you to slide it over the ball joint or tie rod bolt. and then tighten the screw to pull it out, it doesn't work, it's too narrow and the disconnect tab is too thick to fit on any of the tire bars I've tried on, WTF Orion Tools, who was the idiot who designed this tool! This is the second or third tool I've bought from Orion and they were all poorly designed or problematic in some way. I recommend you stay away from this one, it's totally useless!
