This joint separator is a great addition to any automotive toolbox. As a result of my tests, I determined that this tool is very effective at separating stubborn ball joints and tie rod ends. I have Bought this to separate the outer tie rod ends and the top ball joints, but it doesn't reach, doesn't open far enough. I work with Dodge, Ram and Jeep vehicles so this is not the best option for those vehicles. The only thing that made it great was the tensioner linkage where it attaches to the Chrysler 300's knuckle.

I've been a professional mechanic for 30 years, Toyota master mechanic and now that I'm retired I still repair friends and family's cars. I used to always use a drawbar to disconnect the tie rods and ball joints but the only problem is that in most cases the tie rod or ball joint separates from the steering knuckle and the anthers are snapped and these days sealed tie rods or ball joints are hinge assemblies a big problem since they cannot be lubricated.
