Review on ๐Ÿ๏ธ Garmin zลซmo XT Motorcycle GPS Navigation Device, 5.5-inch Ultrabright Display, All-Terrain and Rain-Resistant by Dave Hersma

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent motorcycle GPS

Finds satellites quickly. Map updates are relatively fast. The screen is bright and easy to read. Finding addresses or place names is easy. The on-screen keyboard is easy to type. It's not too bad to deduct a star, but I have to point out that the power cable could be better designed. It has a proprietary connector on one end for connecting to a device and voltage regulator box a few feet away from the permanently attached one. The clearance between the plug and the box is about an inch less than ideal for my 2012 Harley FLHTK. If I turn sharply to the right, the cable is taut. Another inch would give me the game that really should have been. But with electricity under the seat and GPS on the handlebars, that's hardly possible. The voltage box is too big to fit under the back panel along with the main wiring harness, so it had to be stowed under the seat. It works, but it could be better. Update: I bought a second mount and power cable for my 2018 Harley FLHCS. The same problem with a fixed cable length. I was able to get it working, but a few extra inches between the device connector and the voltage box would have made things a lot easier. I've only used it for a few local trips I've done a million times without navigation. It is much easier to use compared to the factory GPS modules in my 2015 RAM truck and 2019 Dodge Challenger. It is also much more accurate than in-car devices. It's almost as easy to use as Google Maps. It's constantly paired with my iPhone and the Cardo Pack Talk headset. However, I have to agree with most of the other reviewers. Their Base Camp and Explorer programs are terrible, and their documentation is practically useless. It's quicker for me to randomly explore the device's UI to see what's going on than to read PDFs or online manuals. But overall I like the device. It does what I need very well. Take me where I need to go. I normally only use my phone in the car, but on the bike I need weather protection and the convenience of wearing gloves. This unit is all I need for my two bikes.
