OK, the instructions didn't work for me either, but here's what worked. 1. Align 2 threaded pieces on the small joint plate inside. It takes a little patience, but the closer you are to the center, the better your connection will be. 2: Set the timer for 45 SECONDS and turn it on. DO NOT exceed 45 seconds or you will burn your filament and it will become brittle. 3: When the timer is up, turn it off, grab the thread anywhere you want and push LIGHTLY towards the center, you should feel it moving. 4 : Wait 5-7 minutes to cool completely, remove and clean. After you get the "wings" if you have them and sand them smooth, draw. Crimper is too long. If it's the latter, you can just cut and reconnect the fragile point. Thoughts You can try less than 45 seconds - I haven't experimented too much yet. I was able to splice most of my cuts with an acceptable splice that was still flexible enough to go through my court for about 50 yards, using a splice every 6 inches as a test.
