I bought this camera just over two weeks ago. I haven't needed a webcam in years as we mainly use our phones and laptops for things like this. In the quarantine situation we had to come up with something with Zoom and school events. We needed something for the kids that was better than a laptop. We have four children who do karate. The school they attend has switched to virtual classes. This webcam was the perfect complement to the situation. I have it on my TV. The cable is more than long enough to reach the laptop we're mounting below. A laptop is just a means of transport for attending courses. The fact that I can connect this camera and microphone to a TV (configured as a second display for a laptop) makes the kids feel like they're back in the classroom. The wide-angle lens is perfect for capturing everything. Room. With four children, they need to spread out a bit. The room is approximately 15 x 14 feet with a TV in the corner (photo attached). This photo was a screenshot of a QuickTime video captured under normal home lighting. Usually we put the sofa away and the camera can capture the whole room. We also use the camera's microphone. It works well, there are no complaints from the teacher. Before using it for this purpose, I called someone on Google Duos from my computer and tested both the image quality and the microphone. It worked great. I read two major complaints about this camera while doing my research before ordering it. The first is that the color can look washed out. This is a simple webcam. You shouldn't count on the fact that you will record a super quality video. As the camera describes, it's 1080p quality. For best results, use the right lighting behind the camera and other professional equipment and the right position. I don't know why anyone expects a professional quality webcam. You have to take care of good image quality and dynamic functionality when handling light. This camera works great in low light conditions. The two light bars on the sides really help where light is an issue. I have no problems with the generated image quality. It more than meets my requirements. Another problem I read about was the microphone. Again, this is a webcam; People shouldn't expect to record high quality audio with it. The quality is normal for normal use. People end up listening to you without complaint. A little hint; The functionality of the camera is controlled by the software that uses it. Sometimes the microphone is set too low by default. You need to test and optimize it. I had to do this for both Duos and Facetime. After adjusting the microphone to normal levels, there were no problems. I suspect people don't notice. This camera literally connects to everything. I've used it on both Mac and PC. It worked great on my Hackintosh too. I've used it with Facetime, Google Duos, Zoom, Quick-Time and a few others. Every device recognized it and every app let me go straight to the video and microphone selection. All applications allowed me to only use the camera for video and select a different source for the microphone. It's very easy to get started with. My only complaint is that the camera doesn't have a base hinge. This makes fine adjustment to the right or left difficult. This would be a little useful for the karate class we're using it for. However, this is not an obstacle. I have many Amcrest products and they never disappoint. Their products are easy enough to use for non-technical people. They are also flexible for people like me who love to explore and push the boundaries of devices. I would recommend this camera to anyone who wants a quality webcam without having to spend a lot of money. It's easy to use and you'll be up and running in minutes. Pros: β’ Good video quality in low light β’ Wide angle lens to capture more of the room if needed β’ Surprisingly long USB cable β’ Adjustable bracket to accommodate monitor and TV thickness (my TV is a bit thicker) β’ Good microphone (adjust microphone settings) β’ Comes with a good tripod β’ Dust cover for the lens Cons: β’ No turning movement at the base
