Let's face it, if you're buying this you probably have a ten year old laptop. It's cheaply made: the outer shell is flimsy, and you have to flex the case a bit over both ports to allow it to "grab" your USB ports. This is basically a hidden mount. The latch seems to be quite tight in the ExpressCard slot. I'm not sure why people claim it's "easy to extract". Works great with HFS, exFAT, Fat32, etc. However, it works great. Moving a 7.3GB ISO file on Windows gives a transfer rate of 104MB/s (from external HDD to my internal SSD). Moving a 4.3GB ISO file on OSX takes "less than a minute" according to the transfer dialog. For Windows operation: You need to install the AsROCK Media USB3.0 driver. Then it works perfectly. The installation from the hard disk takes only 1 minute. That's all, everything is ready, everything works at once. On OSX you must first disable System Integrity Protection to install from the recovery partition (el Capitan and later you can re-enable it after installing the kext files). Then download the Multi-Beast Patcher for your OS version. Navigate to the app and right-click to view Package Contents > Contents > Resources. There are separate installers for all kext files, MULTI-BEAST based installation will not work on El Capitan - don't worry about using the application directly. Run the offline package installer at the end of the directory for general USB 3.0 support. (GenericUSBXHCI-v1.2.11.pkg) This method is much easier than manually moving the kext file and setting permissions in my opinion. Double-click installation is always preferred over terminal commands in my opinion. Restart, log in, insert the USB stick. It will blink but never mount. Restart your computer and you now have a working USB3 speed capable driver. Please note: Only 1 USB hard drive can be powered by the card at a time. Connecting two hard drives causes one to shut down (lack of power?). Two USB drives, SSDs, or wireless dongles work fine, as does any combination of the two. You can also use an external hard drive and any other low-power combination (flash drive, mouse, etc.). It does not work with NTFS 3g support. It seems that most NTFS drives are mounted bypassing the NTFS layer. You can read them at USB3 speed, but they are mounted read-only.
