**IF** you follow these rules: 1) The engine MUST be in the #1 Top Dead Center (TDC) position when running. On the other end of the head there is a small notch in the upper timing belt sprocket and another notch in the valve cover. Before removing the valve cover, align these slots by turning the engine on the crankshaft (a 19mm 12 point socket is used on the lower timing sprocket under the vehicle). Chain tensioner, although you may have to move slowly to allow oil to flow from the tensioner's hydraulic cylinder. If you've definitely hit the bottom of the tool and the timing chain still isn't slack, that's because rule #1 wasn't met for some reason. DO NOT get impatient or use too much force on this tool to "start the engine". They will just break the tool for no good reason. Go back and assess/correct the TDC situation that is really causing the problem.
