Great Slicer, But: Kitchen & Dining

This is a great slicer; beautiful, durable, works MUCH better than a knife. It is almost impossible to cut an even piece for sandwiches/crackers with a knife. Get perfect slices every time with this food slicer. However, I took the sprocket off due to: (1) a broken wire and (2) a wobbly link assembly. Broken Wire: As many others have mentioned, the slicer arrived with the wire installed that had snapped in two. Luckily, two spares are supplied with tape attached to the bottom of the marble slab. A broken wire is the result of poor packaging and I bet 90% of buyers will find that the installed wire is broken when they receive it. The manufacturer can either improve the packaging (including the manufacturer's cost) or simply tape all three wires to the bottom and let the buyer install the wire (at no cost to the manufacturer). Installation is quick and easy, but I disagree with the included instructions that say you must begin installation by attaching the end of the handle first. Because the wire is taut, it is difficult to wrap the wire around the less accessible handleless end hidden in the marble base's channel. Instead, I started bypassing the no-handle end in the base channel. Then I put the grip on the other end of my hand and twisted the grip to get the right tension and finally tightened the grip. It took maybe two minutes. Wobbly Lever Assembly: My old clipper had a wooden base and the lever fit snugly in the pivot hole. This hole in the base of this slicer is a millimeter or two larger and the arm swings too much to cut even slices. I solved the problem by putting two layers of heat shrink tubing on my arm and then adding some olive oil to allow the arm to rotate smoothly. This provided a tighter fit and consistent sheaves. Overall I am happy with my purchase and will buy again.
