Review on Ultimate Home Theater Cooling Solution: AC Infinity ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ AIRPLATE T7 Quiet Cooling Fan System with Thermostat Control by Curtis Domus

Efficient and well made, but too noticeable at fan speeds above LOW for me.

Efficient and well made, but too noticeable for me at fan speeds above LOW. I installed a Denon AVR S900W in an open front console. In normal operation it would get 120F+, there just wasn't enough ventilation, and the AVR lacks any form of active cooling (fans). Unfortunately, the switchable AC port of the good old days is also missing, and even the front USB port has no switchable power for some reason. So I needed an active cooling solution that could be turned on and off in some way and I found this device based on thermal mode. Installation was pretty easy thanks to the templates provided and the well-made metal body. However, I found that the mounting screw holes were too close to the edges of the cutout. It didn't stop me from installing, but it did make things a little more difficult. I started with SMART mode as it seems to be the most ideal in terms of cooling. But I spent over a week trying to find the right temperature sensor location (ideally right above the receiver, as that's the target I'm trying to cool) and the temperature threshold that would provide the best cooling with the least annoying noise . me. I've never had success as it is clearly audible when the unit switches from off to low or low to medium and any other change in speed. And it had no buffer between speed cycles, it could accelerate to the desired speed, stay at it for a few seconds, slow down again for 5 seconds, accelerate again and keep going so constantly that it was annoying to hear. Also, any speed other than LOW was just too audible for me, probably due to my open front console. Maybe I wouldn't notice the noise if I closed the consoles/case all the way? But most of the time it was noticeable by the constant change of speed. Anyway, I set it to AUTO with a temperature threshold of 90F and a fixed speed at LOW speed. So now I turn on the AVR, the fans turn on fairly quickly, stay silent the whole time, and finally turn off after the AVR has been off for a while. The AVR isn't as cool as when the fans are allowed to run on medium/high, but it's still cool. And I don't even notice the fan noise anymore. Conclusion: mission accomplished. I just wish it was quieter at higher speeds.

Pros
  • Great
Cons
  • No performance
