The quality is high, the material is dense and durable. Definitely fasten.
So far they are still quite stiff and difficult to put on carpet. We haven't nailed them yet as most suspect, which is really necessary as they don't install properly on carpeted stairs - the corner doesn't stay close to the edge. So technically they can be a little dangerous if you don't pin or secure them as they move. But in terms of quality and style, they work and are good. We use them to hide and stop the pet "cat stain" they seem to like so they stop pulling the carpet. They actually work great for this purpose, believe it or not! Now all that's left to do is hammer a nail in, lol.
