Works well but requires WORKS

I read many reviews before ordering this product and thought there might be flaws in the design - there just aren't. I believe that the negative comments are due to the lack of instructions and understanding of how the device works. I've used old combers extensively so I knew what to expect and I think that's the only reason this worked for me. While working on a burr on my 140,000 mile Ford 5.4L, it took me 80 to 105 full turns (depending on how far I tightened the expander to remove the burr. The key is the two levers that control the Cutters not included: Press them both down and hold them flat on the block's platform before tightening the cutter. When tightening the cutter, only turn it a quarter turn after you feel it clear the top of the block Firsts touches Turn the rotary wrench (open/socket or socket) five full turns and inspect the cut. Inspect. You should now see about 1/8" of the cut surface about every twenty full turns with your fingernail. When pressed, turn until the tab clears the nail, then stop, loosen the adjuster 1/2 turn, and move on to the next cylinder. You should be sweating a little at this point n. This should take about five minutes (or longer) per cylinder, and you may need to take breaks in between. The small (1/8") plastic knob on the underside of the cutter blade is there to allow the cutter to "feel" its angle in the cylinder, but you have to keep pressing the handles against the block for this to work. If you You are a do-it-yourselfer and have made it this far, you have courage and skill, but also tired hands when you are done with 8 or 10 cylinders.

Pros
  • Exclusive stabilizer spring allows operator selective cutting to minimize vibration.
Cons
  • Expandable
