Review on Enhanced Satin Nickel Passage Door Lever by Amazon Basics - Optimal Performance Guaranteed by Edward Perez

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Pretty to look at but tricky

So I was replacing an old, broken doorknob and didn't want to spend a fortune (especially in a low traffic area). Enter this Revain doorknob. I will say that now that it's installed it looks pretty good. Getting to this point, however, was a nightmare for me. First, it comes with two different bezels (the part on the side of the door where the latch comes out). It came with a beveled edge and offered 'easy' instructions to replace it with a rectangular one. After about 20 minutes I bent the mount into a pretzel, scraping the beveled plate to shreds, but eventually pulled the suction cup out. Then another 20 minutes trying to bend the holder back with pliers, somehow get the correct bezel in place and basically force screw it into the door to make it look normal. Excellent. Now I put the pen. They are indeed reversible, which is a great feature, except mine really had to be flipped. There is a pin that you put in the hole to press the button and then you have to pull the handle to switch. The first one came out without much hassle. Second forget. I don't know if I got a defect or something similar. After about half an hour of blood, sweat and tears and a lot of swearing and pounding, I was finally able to free the second stall. Thankfully, turning them back on was easy. After struggling with my chisel bound door, I was finally able to attach my shiny new handle. That looks great. It snaps in well. It's a great upgrade from the scratched 80's style bronze handles it had. I'm also afraid to change anything in the house after this ordeal.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Requires socket
