I'm a bit of a backyard mechanic but have never tried this modification. The pump fits well, I didn't realize it was supposed to compress into the gas tank and figured the pump was to blame as it was 2" above the tank opening and was at the bottom of the tank. Just push firmly and then install the locking ring. I cut my metal floor and made a 14 x 12 hole instead of paying $700 to have a lift mechanic install it. Usually about three hours of work. Be sure to use a round cutting tool when cutting the passenger side floor on the driver's side and only cut about 1/4 inch deep. I left the cut closest to the center of the car not cut all the way and it worked like a loop. Then place a 2" x 1/8" sheet metal under the hole in the bottom panel and screw the "door" to it. Then use HVAC chrome tape to seal it.
