Works great for long haul fiber 1Gb. If you are over 550-600m use this GBIC and save money! You'll need them in pairs if you don't already have one on the other end (doesn't have to be the same brand, although I'd recommend always matching the manufacturer). I mean they have to be the same style i.e. short to short or long to long, you can't mix short on one end and long on the other.
