I bought this system in place of the locking system sold by Trek because that kit includes a seatpost lock. It attaches easily and feels very secure. However, it may be a good idea to remember that "locks are for an honest world" and stand no real chance against a determined thief who is carrying tools around. With a cable lock and these installed, I know someone can still take my bike, so I factor that into my reasoning. Even if you have an MTB, you should remember that MTBs are in high demand, and even if the thief only gets part of the bike. . . So be careful with your MTB!
