Review on 🔪 Oshlun SDS-0842 8-Inch 42 Tooth Stack Dado Set: A Versatile Choice with 5/8-Inch Arbor by Mike Davis

I turned a very expensive tree into sawdust and I regret it. Of course, this is much faster with this tool. I've never used a stacking dado set, but some of the guys who want to be youtube carpenters make it pretty easy for themselves and most of them have their fingers. So how difficult can it be? I threw away the instructions because who needs them? When you have 3 pounds of steel spinning at 6000 rpm, who cares? The center mandrel hole has an extremely tight tolerance (and for good reason) which made assembly and disassembly a little tricky, but very, very secure once assembled. The instructions state that the blade pack and shims are "undersized" or "undersized" to match the nominal gauge of various wood species. So I took them at face value and adjusted them to 3/4 inch. Let me be clear I have never used a dado set before. I took out the caliper and measured the installed and tightened stack. Almost 0.75 inch as promised. So far, so good. Using a square, I measured the depth of the cut. So far, so good. Adjust the fence so the center of the cut is 4 inches from the desired edge. So far, so good. In nervous anticipation the green button is on. Soft start, check. Dust extraction incl. Everything seems to be going according to plan. no noise No vibration. No questions. It's time to stick in the wood! The cutting quality was TOP! No crack, no really noticeable burrs on the cut. The breakers consistently made relatively clean cuts. My first dado haircut was 25 inches of pure success. The Dado's fit was almost perfect as far as I could tell. I sealed it, screwed in the four screws and all is good. I wiped the blades down as they had a lot of oil on them to protect them. The shipping/storage box is ugly but adequate to protect it. Would recommend to anyone who needs a dado haircut from time to time.
