Update (01/14/20) Well its been a little over a year since I use these 10 weight belts daily to keep my ladders on the rack , and I already have a pair of straps that need replacing due to cuts, but none of them show any signs of sun wear. All stainless steel cases have held up great and even the vinyl coated steel hooks are still in good condition. The action of these retractors still works, but the straps are not interchangeable as usual; Everything is only as good as its weakest link and the whole block should be replaced. I've been using these retractable straps for about a decade now and love them so had to be a replacement. I was excited to see someone selling their stainless steel version which wasn't too expensive either. The return spring seems strong enough, but the lever needs modification. If it were like most and the trigger pulled down to the main grip, it would leave your other hand free to operate the hook, but this downside would require you to have three hands to operate effectively. It can be done with a little practice, but it could be better. The strap inside is quite flimsy and not meant to be replaced, which is a problem as this fragile strap, which isn't even 1/4 the strength of a seat belt, won't last more than a year, with any luck there is one Problem. It defeats the purpose of having such a durable stainless steel metal body. The solution is to sell a replacement band that's easily replaceable, but that wouldn't be an option here, so this has a very serious planned obsolescence issue, so it's a cheating issue, but not much different than almost every other manufacturer. Although I would expect more from a company that sells a lifetime metal case with no possibility of replacing that fragile strap if it wears out or is cut and no longer reliable to hold your load resulting in a heavy one Accident could result if not multiple fatalities if your cargo flies down the road behind you. You need to check the condition of the belt very carefully before each use and be ready to replace the entire unit before it's too late, which is rare in the real world.
