Do not take any risks!

I bought and installed this product more than 9 months ago. Before I write a review I wanted to see how it goes. Before purchasing this item I did my homework and seen people having issues with this product on their V6 Camaros. Maybe it was a rejection and I didn't think it was the product that was causing their problems, but I decided against my better judgment and bought this product. In the beginning it was amazing. It improved my throttle response, sounded great, and greatly improved fuel economy (I mostly drove on the freeway, so I already had good fuel economy). After about 2 weeks and 200-300 miles my check engine light came on. Anyway, I needed an oil change, so I drove my car to a local mechanic (not a nationwide auto shop, but a one-man small business owner) to have it checked out and also change the oil. He came back with 5 engine codes. I don't remember the exact codes, but I had one for a lean mixture, one for an incorrect MAF reading, and three for misfiring. My MAF sensor was fine with virtually no oil and after a little research my mechanic concluded it was a K&N system. I didn't want to believe it so I asked him to clear the codes and left. I rode it about 10 miles and when I got home I just removed the filter, cleaned it and let the filter dry in the sun. excess oil removed, air intake system checked for leaks, mass air flow meter cleaned and carried on as usual. The check engine light came on again a day later and less than 25 miles. I persistently rode this thing for another 5-6 months and many miles hoping that one day my check engine light would magically go out. That never happened. About 2 months ago I had a very minor accident. Long story short, a piece of road debris hit my front bumper next to my fog lamp, causing the headlight housing to burst and short out, causing more warning lights. While diagnosing my warning lights, I had these mechanics (typical nationwide mechanical shop) look at my check engine light. Her car lit up like a Christmas tree. I've had about 10-15 codes related to airflow, engine issues and misfires. As soon as I received my car from the body shop, I removed that air intake and reinstalled my factory one (November 23rd). I went to put the check engine light out (November 24th) because I was curious if the lights would come back on. Since last Thanksgiving week, when I was driving both work and vacation, I've driven about 750 miles and not once has the check engine light come on. I took my car to AutoZone and asked them to connect to my computer to see if any codes came up. Nothing. With that being said, my stubborn self finally agrees that this product is going to give you problems with your machine. Don't buy it. However, there is also a silver lining. I have contacted the folks at K&N and they know that this product can cause these problems and as of this writing K&N is sending me their 69-4520TP kit as a replacement free of charge. I contacted K&N about 3 weeks ago (when I had a minor accident) to let them know of the issues. They instructed me to uninstall their system and reinstall the factory system. If I drive it for a while and the check engine light doesn't come on, the field will destroy their system and they will send me a new system. That's exactly what I did. I should have a new shipment in the mail by the end of the week. Let's see if that causes any problems. The only reason I am giving this 2 stars instead of 1 is that K&N is a reputable company and they are trying to correct their mistake by sending me a new system. This is excellent customer service that needs to be acknowledged.
