I bought this while trying to find a way to restore the water resistance of my hat. I have a felt hat that I love very much. But over time it has lost most of its water resistance. I have a hat cover to make it fully waterproof, but that's not always practical when it's snowing lightly. Based on recommendations from the hat manufacturer's website, I used it. First brush your hat. Then apply a layer of spray and wipe off. I used blue shop towels. let it dry Apply a second layer. I think I applied 2 coats to one hat and 3 to the other. The cover is a bit dark. I wouldn't say it's enough to bother me or anything. Just a warning. I found it restored 95% of my water resistance. And it took me all year. I will probably close it in winter. Oh, and I never felt a trace of it. Once it dries, it is. There is no film on the hat that you will notice on your fingers.
