Despite reading mixed reviews I decided to give it a try. I really didn't want to use heat unless absolutely necessary for fear of damaging something. Another reviewer recommended using a hose clamp, which worked well. I think it's well built on its own as the gear blade is broken, not the tool. I'll keep it for future use as it has small but sturdy feet to fit into tight spaces, like my 1.8 liter Miata. See photo. I've been struggling to take off my gear for days! Tightening the clamp over the gear and around this puller seemed to work best.
