Review on 🚲 BELL Ripley Adult Bike Helmet: Superior Protection for Cyclists by Eddie Rivas

Revainrating 5 out of 5

My favorite helmet!

I have a 50cc scooter that in my state does not require an adult rider to wear a helmet at all. But I want to set a good example for my children and also recognize the real security risks. my nephew died many years ago from head injuries sustained in a car accident. So I was going to wear a helmet anyway, but the DOT rating of a real motorcycle helmet is optional. I actually have several DOT motorcycle helmets. Some classic 1970's style models are fine, but that's overkill for a 50cc engine. Another half helmet I received looked great in the photos (and looks great in person) but looks like a peanut on a pumpkin when you put it on your head. It's not that it's that small, but it just climbs too high. I think they call it the "fungus effect". You want enough shock absorbing foam in the helmet, you want a thick enough layer, but it seems to me that there comes a point where having more is counterproductive. . the point where the height makes everything shaky, ready to slide off your head or like a lever ready to snap your neck. I think this helmet is a good compromise, at least at typical bike speeds. If I were to change anything, it would make the tough outer shell more durable. I adorned mine with a pair of magnetic cow horns for comedic effect while riding a 50cc scooter. I can rotate them in different positions on my bases every day. Without any internal comfort padding, this helmet is perfect for my thick skull. It might not be good for hours of driving, but it's fine for a 5-minute commute to and from work. It definitely increases my chances of surviving an accident.

Pros
  • Compliant - Meets the US CPSC safety standard for bicycle helmets for ages 5 and up.
Cons
  • Doubtful
