I didn't really need a new gas cap but the 'Check Engine' light was on and after a thorough check with the mechanics I was sure it was at I felt everything is fine with the car and that perhaps replacing the fuel cap with an original cap for a good seal can eliminate this situation. I have also come to the conclusion that the "Check Engine" light comes on fairly frequently on Honda Accords from 2001 and many other years and car models for no apparent reason. I was told it was most likely a small leak in the vacuum system. In short, the light will come on again after replacing it with a new cap and turning off the light. I think we just have to live with that, whether the cap is new or old.
