
To be honest, when the Raspberry Pi range expanded from full featured SoCs to microcontrollers I wasn't really interested. I mean, for budget projects I've used Arduino, Beagle Bones and ESP32 before. Why use Pico? Well, Picos is FASTER (compared to Arduino). The Python implementation is pretty slick too. The PIO pins are really powerful. After all, if you buy picos elsewhere, you can get them for $4! Wow. I'll probably continue to use the ESP32, but my experience with the Pico was enough to put me off future Arduinos. 3 times what the most expensive component should be? Well, that's not great. Of course, shipping is included (there is no such thing as free shipping) and you get the pins and cable. It's good in terms of convenience, but you'll have to decide if it's worth the extra cost.
