Smooth finish on all parts allows for easy clip release under load, yet securely holds load until ready to release. I use these to secure a window vent cover for an exit window so a person can simply pull the pins and remove the cover. They're tied to the bottom of a 5ft deep well with a little dome over it so no one looking down can figure out how to open them - all they see is a steel cable tied to the bottom. I'll attach a photo when I'm done.
