Just plug and play. I connected it to my computer and it was recognized immediately. Driver installation is not possible! It reads my data DVDs and CDs and transfers data fairly quickly. I can use my DVD video software and watch DVDs on my PC. I can use my burning software and burn CDs, DVDs. I can also format and burn RW DVDs. It goes perfectly with everything I've tried. It's an easy and inexpensive way to add DVD/CD capabilities or bypass a non-working built-in DVD player in a PC or laptop. I am very happy with this DVD drive and give it 5 stars!
