Not much for beginners and lacks threading.
For a cross stitch beginner this is quite difficult. No iron, he counts the seams. I'm an adult and figured it out, but it would be difficult for an 8 year old. I also ran out of purple thread in four rows, the whole body of the bird is purple, and there is very little purple thread in the kit. Luckily I had purple thread to match the bird's ending.
