My 85MB 300D (W123 body) needed to have a lower ball joint replaced. In rural areas it is extremely unlikely to find a workshop with a suitable crimping machine for such a 32 year old car. I found this cheap kit and lucked out, one of the molded cups was just the right diameter to press in a new ball joint. in place without damaging the rubber boot. All I had to do was trim the cup and use a cutter wheel to cut out a 45 degree angle on the top arm of the press. This allowed the modified tool to be installed. To avoid overusing the tool, I measured the interference to 23 mils (0.023) prior to installing the new ball joint and reduced it to 15 mils using a die grinder and drum sander prior to installation, as I read other helpful reviews that supported the Limitations and bugs of this tool. 15 mil is still a lot of interference for a very tight fit. , I used a steel bar mandrel to set the new part at the right angle when starting the press. An impact wrench was then used to turn the last 2/3; The torque required was beyond what could be applied by hand and drift was no longer efficient. I recommend this kit for the home mechanic - the quality is decent and the press was able to handle a significant amount of torque without damage.
