This beat works great!

If you're just cutting a few board holes for corn holes, you don't need to spend more than $60 for a professional hole saw, this one works really well. A few reviews here might lead you to believe that if you look at this bit the wrong way it will snap in half, but that's definitely not the case. So far I've used this to make 3 holes, one in an old bookshelf. I also used 2 pieces of 1/2" birch plywood that will be used for the corn pit boards as a test. All 3 were made with no problems and the drill worked just as well on the 3rd hole as it did on the first. Other than that, the design of this drill is cheap and the metal is quite thin, so for best results I recommend the following steps: 1. Pre-drill the center hole with another drill bit, slightly smaller than the hole it sits in, and the set screw will push the bit to the side, so slightly off axis I think that might be why some people had trouble breaking it but if they do it will be pretty easy to replace 2. Use a power drill which speed is easy to control and keep it low I used my cordless drill and set the gear to low range so even when I held the trigger all the way down the drill maxed out at 450 . I really see no reason to drive faster. 3. Hold the drill up and down as straight as possible. I asked someone else to hold the board so I could use 2 hands on the drill press. If it starts to stick, just stop, move the bit up a little, readjust, and start again slowly. Finish it from the top. This way there are no splinters left on the back when you finish the hole. Also, if you make a mistake and ruin the board, it's at least on the reverse side.

Pros
  • Produces smooth, even professional cuts.
Cons
  • Doubtful purchase for the elderly.
