Although using a hose is not recommended, this heater worked very well to keep my RV's fresh water hose from freezing and icing. I tied the coiled heater wire to the hose in a spiral, then covered the entire length with 1.50 inch ID foam black air conditioner foam insulation. I'm happy with the performance and the hose doesn't get hot. The amperage is also very small, so it consumes very little electrical power. If you're using this for the same reason as me, you'll also need to make sure you also wrap the device's feed tube and keep it insulated. A very pleasant surprise in the kit is the indicator light on the plug, which tells you that the heater is working. The product is of very good quality.
