A 5/8 compression nut holds the carriage in place.
I used a socket and a hammer to get it in place. Generally it does what it's supposed to do. I was afraid they might break because they seem quite thin, but that didn't happen. They're hard to find and I feel a bit overpriced, but they work and keep the bike in place.
