Review on 3-Inch Hillman Group 5843 Screw by Christopher Pfaffe

Revainrating 5 out of 5

It's not one screw, it's a set of 3 screws

Picture of Revain with one screw and the description of this product as "Hillman Group 5843 Wood Screw, 12" x 3" suggests that only one screw is purchased. In addition, the number of screws is not specified in the product description. This product is actually a package of three screws. Revain's picture is correct, showing a wood screw with a flat head and a smooth shank. More specifically, they are Phillips pan head screws. I needed three 3" long #12 screws to replace three narrower 2" #8 screws that were loose in the door hinge. Based on Revane's description, I assumed it was a single screw, so I ordered three. I was pleasantly surprised when my package arrived and I found three packages of three screws each. There are never too many screws. Before this purchase, I didn't know about the numbering scheme that indicates the diameter of wood screws, but I knew I needed larger diameter screws to replace those that were loose in my door hinge. So for those who are not familiar with wood screws like me, the number "12" in the description of this "12" x 3" screw refers to the diameter of the shank. After a little research on the internet I found found the #12 screw had a 7/32" shank. The existing screws in my hinge that had come loose were a #8 with a 5/62 shank. These screws worked very well in my door hinge.
