Light on GFCI not lit

I've had Heattrak mats for years and a bright red light comes on from their power supply, you CLEARLY know if the mat is worn out is. I just received this mat, plugged it in and can't tell if it's on or off. The light isn't on. I tried various points to test this. I may have to send this back. It should have a brighter light and I'm hoping I don't have those uneven melting points. Mistakes are too expensive. The only positives are that the mat is heavier than Heattrak mats and the edges are "finished" and don't curl up like Heattrak.
