Revainrating 5 out of 5

This product is great for a small apartment with fewer devices

I bought this gateway when I lived in a small apartment and in general everything was fine, but I don't think this is the right one Gateway for me is use. I've had it for a little over 1 year now. At the time I had about 4-5 devices using it, but I've outgrown it since then. I'm good at home networking and Comcast's Xfinity helped me set it up quite easily, you just have to chat with them for a while while they activate it. Right now I'm on a 200Mbps plan and it offers the speeds I need, but it often overheats and starts to lag when used a lot. The CPU cooling solution inside is pretty bad. This is a pair of heatsinks with aluminum cooling fins that sit on heatsinks with no active airflow. I pointed a fan at it and it seemed to help a little. I'm a gamer and I will say gamers beware. This gives you nominal download and upload speeds, but sometimes the latency is pretty bad. However, I've never had a problem streaming movies on Netflix, Hulu, or watching videos on YouTube or Twitch. These services work fine for me, but in modern games I often notice packet loss and very severe lag. The server I'm connecting to is basically giving me a 20ms ping, so that shouldn't be a problem at all, but I'm getting lags all the time. I have a good gaming PC connected via ethernet so there shouldn't be any lag issues. Sometimes I scroll through Reddit or other image based sites and if you scroll too fast it pauses loading for a minute until it catches up. I'm not worried about the speed of the internet, I'm worried about the lag. I don't want to criticize this gateway because I think it doesn't deserve a bad rating. I've just outgrown it and need a reliable modem/router that will support my gaming PC, my wife's PC, 2 phones, Google Home, Chromecast and other small smart devices.
