We got these about 18 months ago as our first pair had the same problem. Now, admittedly, we have a good dishwasher that gets very hot. But this thing says "dishwasher safe," so we're assuming it's fine. But like our first pair before it, the "ergonomic" black grip material covering the grip gradually becomes rough and sticky and begins to rub off your hand with every use. My first pair is here, I took it off. black rubber stuff just to expose the metal but quite a bit of black stuff remains. I need a solvent to remove it. Also, for some reason, the eyelet/lock still has the same material coverage. I bought an oxo knife with a similar material on the handle and am having the same problem.
