Review on ABN Water Pump Sprocket Retainer Tool - Safely Secure Full-Circle Sprocket for 2.2L GM Vauxhall Opel by Jim Kriegshauser

Perfect for GM 2.4 Also

I ordered this and only used it this week thinking it would be in my tool box but it wasn't. I used it on a 2009 Saturn Vue. Working with GM 2.4 (and 2.2) is terrible. The water pump is hidden between the engine and bulkhead on the passenger side. If you're changing the timing chain at the same time (good luck with that) then you won't need this tool, but if you're just changing the water pump, don't try without this ABN 7097. The tool is specially designed for you. to prevent the common problem of bolts falling into the chain cover cavity, as well as to prevent the water pump gear from moving under chain tension when removing the water pump from the rear. There is very little space between the body and the cover of the water pump gearbox. Remove the HF wheel and crescent shaped plastic cover and there you will see (almost) the water pump gear cover held on by 4 screws. The rest of the work to get this in place so you can remove the pump is mostly done by touch, as if you were blind because you can't see much. Then, under the car, remove the downpipe, coil, and muffler from the rear exhaust manifold. Yes, you will likely break a few exhaust system bolts and you will also need to re-route the gasket, so be prepared for that as well. Now you're as far as you can go ready to remove the water pump. You can also order O-rings from GM 90537379. Affordable and a lifesaver for mechanics, you can't go wrong with this tool. It's the perfect replacement for Kent Moore's ridiculously expensive J instrument. I would rank this water pump job higher on the technical skill scale. So if you're an impatient person with limited skills or you're working in a driveway on your knees and back, you might want to pay someone else to do it. The.
