The bag itself is fine. Can't comment on the water resistance as it never rained on our trip from Northern Utah to San Diego. Within 100 miles of starting our trip, the buckle and several straps broke and wore out, and we ended up having to cut the straps off the bag and buy ratchet straps at a gas station for twice what I could buy at a hardware store. After we fixed it with new straps we had no more problems. The plastic buckles are flimsy and I wasn't sure if they would hold up. We also have rails on the roof of our car that we attached the bag to. Save your money, time, and hassle and spend a few more dollars on something more comfortable. This is probably a good bag if you ride around town rather than long distances. Another reviewer recommended burning the ends of the straps to prevent fraying, which I'd happily do, but by the time I discovered the problem, it was too late.
