Review on ComStar Copper Solder Plastic Container by William Dean

Revainrating 2 out of 5

untrustworthy, cracks with every movement, difficult to disassemble

DO NOT trust this product in situations where a leak could cause damage. It appears to form a strong bond, however the cured adhesive is very brittle and cracks at every bend in the pipe. I tried it on a non-critical joint and it worked for a while until the pipe was moved and a leak appeared and it wasn't a drip leak but a real stream. Not good, not good at all! So be careful. This might work for you if you're lucky, but keep your application in mind. Is it worth the (HUGE in my opinion) risk? Water damage can be catastrophic. For anything in the house, and definitely anything inside the walls or out of sight, you'll need to steam (solder) these connections to be 100% safe. It's not that hard, and if you do it right, it turns out beautiful and incredibly pleasurable, and there's no chance this joint will ever leak in your life. It takes some time to learn, whether it's practice or guidance from someone with experience (or YouTube). If you have the money, a fast connection like the Sharkbite works incredibly well in my experience. I paved the whole house with them using a PEX pipe. However, they cost 5-10 times more than copper fittings and are still not as reliable in the long run. But I always keep them on hand as a quick fallback and even use them in certain situations where I want the hose to be free to rotate or when it's too tight where sweating can be difficult or dangerous. This glue is not easy to use as it doesn't melt very well when heated, it sort of burns out so even with high heat there is a lot of friction to break the connection.
