Review on Enhanced NETGEAR N300 Gigabit Ethernet Wi-Fi Access Point (WN802T) by Dustin Marshall

Wireless Access Point

I got this to improve my wireless network without having to tear down and replace a cable modem that supports 802.11a/b/g. Gigabit Ethernet available for AP backhaul sounds great doesn't it? Now that I got that to open up more local airspace and improve bandwidth so I can use the blueray player with built-in web apps like Hulu, VuDu and Netflix as well as Pandora. Works great when just communicating between the blueray player and the hotspot. If you have other 802.11n devices accessing host 'n', here's what I learned that wasn't posted about the access point. The access point is actually a draft version of 802.11n, not a published one. Soooo, this access point has only one radio, not the approved standard for 802.11n which requires two frequencies. Light operation is good, but if you have several other active devices running a released version of 802.11n, you should expect an issue where the access point will start attributing packets based on a lower authority than video and voice transmit because you lose packets first and then you lose connection because all A/V load takes precedence over single channel radio. This would be a winner. (5++++ stars) if it conforms to the published AP specifications for the 802.11n series.
