Review on BOSCH Blaze GLM50C: Bluetooth Enabled Laser Distance Measure with Color Backlit Display - Measure up to 165ft by Vera Gashi

Excellent compared to the Leica Disto A8.

I lost my old, reliable Leica Disto A8. I think I buried it in the wall somewhere. But despite the Leica's outrageous price (I'm not sure how much I paid for it, but I can see it cost $500), it was far from perfect. In contrast, this little Bosch tool costs a fraction of the cost and solves a few problems. one of my constant complaints about Leica. First, the GLM 50 has an impressive, easy-to-read display. Not sure if it's a backlit LCD or OLED, but whatever - the high-contrast white-on-blue image is readable in bright sunlight, in dark basements, when tilted sideways, etc. without squinting! Compare this to the small numbers displayed on my A8, dark gray on a gray-green screen, with a manual (and not very efficient) backlight button. Also, this device is square. Sounds like no, but the bottom edge of the A8 is just a tad crooked, meaning I had to manually tilt the device just a little bit when setting it on the floor to photograph the ceiling to get a straight image Shot. This Bosch goes even further and includes a level indicator on the display so you can't guess if the device is properly aligned. The A8 has a handy camera viewfinder feature that allows you to visually aim in situations where the laser dot is not visible (long distance, outdoors). This is not available on the Bosch device, although I rarely used this function. In contrast, Bosch gives me a Bluetooth connection to the Android app, but again, I haven't found it necessary to use it yet. The only feature I've used from time to time on the Leica that the Bosch doesn't have is the timer. , which would allow me to adjust the frame without worrying about wobbling when the button is pressed. I just have to do without it, but it seems like Bosch could have easily added it as a menu item without any additional work. Speaking of the menu, the GLM 50's work is fantastic. All functions are available by pressing the function button in the wheel menu. Each function is accompanied by a graphic representation of its intended use on the display, allowing for relatively intuitive operation without resorting to the manual. All in all, Bosch has provided us with a really good device that, despite the low price, does not lose much in terms of features and is brilliant in handling.

  • Great design
Cons
  • There are disadvantages
