***** **************************** ** A day after receiving this adapter, I connected it to my iPhone but couldn't access the internet. . After many hours of searching, I found that some adapters required external charging. When I plugged this adapter in (when I plugged the power cord into my phone) it worked again. So you need at least two cables - a charging cable and an RJ45 cable - to be online. Another word of caution: as other reviewers have pointed out, the flashing lights on this tiny box are BRIGHT. I used it during the day so the light was imperceptible. But at night? Forget it. I got a headache from the disgusting flashing lights on the Citgo sign. Worse, light emanates from every corner of this thin white plastic box. I'd have to cover it with ugly black duck tape (or something similar) just to hide SOME of the angry blinking lights. But most of the light falls under the cable connections, so there's nothing to hide. Right now I'm considering bringing this back as I can't use it at night - when I have time to actually use it. But at least it allows for fast download/upload (software updates) on a fixed connection instead of anemic Wi-Fi speeds. ******************** *ORIGINAL REVIEW**************************** * ********* Since our router recently gave up the ghost and we are waiting for a replacement, we have decided to hardwire our phone to our modem. This dock allows us to charge our phones while connected to the internet. I was amazed at the difference in internet speed. I usually HATE using the internet on my iphone because EVERYWHERE is excruciatingly slow. In the US and abroad. I sit and wait for pages to load and wait for them not to load. I just assumed that phones don't handle the internet well. When I connected this hub to my iPhone, the phone started charging immediately. I had to go into my phone's settings to turn on ethernet, but once I did that the connection speed was 20% faster than what I'm paying for. I was so shocked that I continued to run speed tests. The internet on my iphone is now at least as fast as on my computers that are hardwired to my modem. For example, accessing files in the cloud on my phone over Wi-Fi took so long that I put the phone on the counter. , do some chores, come back to the phone after 10 minutes and the files are either still downloading or the connection timed out (the file could not be downloaded after all the wasted time). I tried the same downloads with this hard connection and was stunned. I've seen my iPhone go from download to completion in seconds. I love the speed so much that I think I will continue to use this hard connection when my router arrives. haven't worked for years. But if this one continues to work, it's going to be one of my favorite tech purchases. I will update my review if anything changes.
