Review on EWK 64 5Mm Removal Corolla Cylinder by Elder Unogu

Revainrating 4 out of 5

It fit me perfectly but it was tight

This tool fit me well and I am happy with it. As mentioned in other reviews, I had to tap lightly with a hammer to get the grooves to engage the lugs on the oil filter cover. Also, I had to do a bit of work to remove the oil filter cover from the tool, it just couldn't be removed by hand. I changed the oil for the first time on a 2012 Corolla. I was surprised how difficult it was to get the filter cover off. My short handle lacked torque so I had to use a longer handle and push properly. I saw reviews with photos of broken tools so I was worried but it held up. I used a 3/8" washer on my socket handle since I didn't have a large enough socket. There were no instructions or stickers on my tool saying to use a socket instead of a 3/8 drive hole, like mentioned in other reviews. Toyota's plastic oil filter cap is marked as 25 Nm which is only 18.4 ft-lbs. When I tightened the filter cap I just pushed the tool on the 14 grooves, not the ribs, and it came off the cap with no problem. I used a torque wrench so it will be interesting to see how easy it is to unscrew the filter cap next time. This tool seems to me to be well made. Yes it is aluminum but should be able to hold a properly tightened plastic oil filter cap If this tool broke on me I would take the receipt to the shop where that would be last oil was changed and demand that they pay for a new tool. If it breaks after the last oil change and is only tightened to 25Nm I will get my money back from EWK/Revain and change my rating. So far, so good.
