Attention Brighthouse customers! If you pay $4 a month to rent one of these items from Brighthouse, you're flushing your money down the toilet. This is almost a copy of the Brighthouse model and it works. So it will pay for itself in just a few months. Be prepared to struggle with the installation. I've tried the phone support route without much success. They eventually (much to my surprise) sent a technician who spent about an hour trying to get the phone working. (The website popped up immediately). Finally he did. Although the mine was listed as "restored," it at least looked like it survived the war. It arrives disassembled and rattling in a box that has been ripped open and taped back together. Huge scratches everywhere. There are fat fingerprints on it. Very dirty. The "recovery" process must have consisted of plugging it in to see if the light came on. So I can't say much about the hardware that sells these things. Fortunately, despite the circumstances, it worked out. A bonus: you can enable and use the box's built-in Wi-Fi, which was disabled on my BrightHouse-supplied device. This is a very capable N-Layer setup that works even better than my old Cisco/Linksys dual-band Wi-Fi router. Ubee is not dual band but as fast as my Cisco/Linksys. One device less. One power supply less. Cleaner facility. Another caveat. It came without a battery, so there is no backup battery. But it came with a power cord and an ethernet cable.
