Let me say up front that I absolutely hate *normal sculpi*; It's too soft and fluffy, it sticks to wooden tools, tends to spring back when pressing detail, and it's rubbish for modeling detailed miniatures (even at 10-12 inch scale). Aside from being a *Super Sculpey* capable of baking your sculpture in a household oven, it has nothing to do with a regular Sculpey. It has an average density that can be softened a bit if you work the clay with your hands. When using tools, it's very similar to carving a wax surface: the clay will hold what you add to or remove from the molds, the prints won't "stick" or "pull" the clay, sharp edges will let up easily and without problems producing the tone feels very manageable. It looks like a mixture of casting wax and plasticine. It can be hard enough to carve, but if you need to mix in new modeling clay you can soften it up a bit and use it as an epoxy to attach the new part. This method creates a very smooth mix, a strong bond, and eventually the softer part becomes harder again. This is just the method that works best for me, but it's not necessarily the best or only way. You will find that clay is really very intuitive and easy to work with. One of my favorite things about this connection is that it is always communicating with itself. Even if you've baked a piece, you can add new clay, bake it again, and it will hold together nicely. Knowing this, I like to create certain basic shapes in my sculpture (e.g. bones) and bake them in a fraction of the time so those shapes harden just enough to hold their shape. On average, I bake such pieces in the preheated oven for about 5 minutes (maximum). This gives the clay enough stability that I can fire it again after modeling. In any case. This is a great sculpting compound for any skill level or experience level. I would recommend this to almost every other newbie. This clay is closer to what you want to use to create high quality, detailed sculpting. What can not be said about the softer loose material. To me this stuff is more like a toy to play around with while having a connection with something like Super Sculpey that can handle a lot of intricate detail and yet be flexible enough to sculpt shapes with ease. If you're a serious beginner (you haven't modeled much or ever, but you plan to really dive in and give it a serious try) then try something like this. You can reuse clay if you don't bake it, it doesn't harden if you don't use it, it's very easy to work with, and you can bake your best creations to harden and color them. It's also not messy at all, which can be a good thing for some people. *Sculpey firm (grey) is good too and you can mix them up*.
