Looks like a reissue. Companies will sell products that don't meet their quality standards. They usually do it in batches. This allows the reseller to re-inspect the lot and discard the non-conforming material and sell the remaining good material. I believe the same goes for this version of 3M's protective paint. The edges are smooth on one side and very rough on the other, like cut/torn with a butter knife. It could actually be material on the edge of the machine that was left behind as waste. I think you need to wet it. I applied it dry and there are so many air bubbles. This suits my needs as it is a protective layer under the rubber to keep the paint from rubbing off. It's thick and chewy. You get a genuine 3M product with a rough edge. I haven't noticed any transparency or adhesion issues other than bubbles.
