Fluorescent Orange; super strong; very impressive.

I think the mechanical properties of HIPS are pretty standard: very stiff, very light, a bit prone to warping on the build plate even at 110°C, but not like that terrible . like ABS. Actually the weight stunned me, you'll probably get a lot more filament than you would expect from a 1kg net weight if you're used to PLA or PETG (ABS I'm not sure). Neon orange, but glows orange in the dark. As if it were 20% white and 80% orange dye. Sections 0.8 mm thick and thinner are slightly transparent. I originally bought this in hopes that I could use it as a support material for PETG as I couldn't find much information on PETG support. Turns out it sucks, you really need PVA instead. The other issue I had was that when doing large long prints on my dual extrusion printer (Hictop D3) with a print bed whose firmware is limited to 100°C, it would absolutely warp at the base (it turns off , when you click it), and this can only be achieved if you first insulate the bottom of the bed. My heavily modified Ender 3 (with SKR 1.3 controller board) with Garolite pad easily reaches 110°C and I may try 120-130°C soon to see if I can get rid of the last bit of warping. It's been its own stuff ever since and I like it almost more than PETG for all things structural which has been my main goal for PETG from the start. No strings, pretty good bridges, and it can be flattened with limonene just like you flatten ABS with acetone, but without having to deal with acetone toxicity. I think HIPS should also be more chemical and UV resistant than ABS, but not as much as ASA, despite being a lot cheaper than ASA. to the PETG line "See Through” from 3D Solutech. I think next time I'll buy neon pink and green.

Pros
  • Filament roundness: +/- 0.07 mm
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
