This simple distraction for our five Rhode Island Reds makes the long winters in the Colorado mountains more bearable for them and us (they are happier and therefore calmer). I recommend two packs so even less dominant girls have a chance to have fun. We've used the two we have almost every day for four months with no problems; however, if I stuff or scratch them with mealworms, they can stick their beaks in the seam and release the treats instantly. They "play" with the balls until they're empty (about an hour), and then keep kicking them for a while - it looks like they're playing soccer with their beak and legs. Gives them something to do other than run around all day waiting for the snow to melt so they can go outside again. These Lixit balls seem to make them happier than the xylophone, the chicken swing, the old mirror, and even the veggies and cabbage we give them.
