Original equipment replacement belts

The Work Sharp Ken Onion Edition sharpener is a sturdy tool that works very well, but over time the grinding belts will need to be replaced. Thinking "why take the risk?" I bought a set of original belts to replace. My kit includes extra coarse, coarse, medium, fine, and extra fine straps. The extra fine belt is still designed for the Ken Onion sharpening cartridge although it is narrower than the others as it is intended for mending serrated blades and hooks where the extra width of the belt makes honing/sharpening more difficult. Users who don't frequently use honing steel on knife blades will overstress one of these belts, and users who don't follow the recommended order of belt usage of resharpening, sharpening, and honing will wear out the belt "quickly" as will hobbyists who do want to change the original blade profile. I agree with the reviewers who think these straps have a normal lifespan if used as intended. In terms of pricing, home users, even those of us with a shelf full of utility knives, aren't going to use many of these belts in a year. We buy multiple belts and need to pay the "long price" not the "volume discount" price. Perhaps Work Sharp belts will appear in the major home centers and prices will then reflect bulk buying without the need to ship small packages over long distances.
