Based on several other reviews I had three concerns about this product: that it would tear. that people had trouble cleaning it and that the food burned while cooking. COD I haven't had any problems in the past 6 weeks. I have this product and have used it 1-2 times a week. almost a dozen times. Not sure if someone struggling prevented it from gradually warming up and gradually cooling down? Rapid, extreme changes can stress any brittle material like cast iron. Even though the melting point of iron is 2800°C, your cooking temperature range for hamburgers, steaks, etc. should not exceed 700-800°C. For a pan, 375-400°C is the highest temperature you want to cook at. If you heat that pan to 800°, that could be part of the problem. CLEANING If you've never owned cast iron cookware, what I'm about to say might scare you a little. With such products, it is not necessary to clean so hard. Aside from spices, when there are microscopic deposits of oils, fats and grease, the metal is naturally protected and the surface becomes smoother as the micro-defects in the metal are filled. My pan is so advanced that after I've finished cooking and it's cool, all I have to do is lightly scrape off the chip with a stainless steel lathe (metal spatula). I then rinse it off with hot tap water and then wipe off any residual oil/grease with a paper towel and then let it air dry. At this point, the material just peels away as if it were Teflon. I never use a brush, steel wool or any other soap or detergent. The only complaint I have that annoys me more than a little is that they put their name on the hob. I really don't care and I don't need to be reminded every time that this is a Victoria product. If I want to buy or recommend other products, I will either remember them or look them up in my order history. Also, it just creates a place for groceries and things to be locked. PREPARATION The first meals were a bit sticky at first. The first thing I cooked was salmon with skin. It wasn't great. I used a decent amount of olive oil but it was still sticky. I just scraped it off and wiped it off with paper towels and it was better next time. Nothing is sticking at the moment and I've found I just need a bit of oil. (Tip: To avoid looking like Fire Marshal Bill, don't use too much oil near an open flame. Just saying :) Overall I like it so far. If it suddenly cracks or something, I'm not happy. In this case we are talking about the imperfection of the material. For example, if the mixture of carbon, silicon, and iron is wrong, or other impurities are present, it can compromise integrity. I would recommend this product for now. If it breaks or whatever, I'll reconsider my recommendation.
