I'm still trying to get the mouse to use this one. So far no luck after a few weeks. Due to the fact that we are in an aquarium, we cut the tabs used to hang it in the cage so that it fits closer to the glass. The mouse climbs over everything, but doesn't die from it. No plastic smell and it looked like new - no problem. Ours was purple
